Utopian Models

Growing off of the Human Hives series these 3D printed sculptures explore utopian architecture. By contemporary standards, these pieces remain utopian “no places”, as they are impossible to construct on life-sized scales.

Originating as a temporary installation at Trinity University each piece was hung outside of a window. The effect rendered the usual 360 degree examination of sculpture impossible and viewers were forced to accept a limited perspective which left them yearned to examine what was just outside their reach. This type of limited discovery continued in the exhibition Alight, where viewers examined the work using only flashlights in a darkened room.
